

Trudy was born in Greensboro, NC, September 17, 1919 to Howard and Arlene Edinger Grimes. She was educated at Greensboro City Schools and Woman's College of North Carolina, now UNC–G where she graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration. She joined the University staff as secretary in the Music Department, and later as Residence Hall Counselor in “Woman's Hall”.
She married Stafford W. Webb in October, 1942. Stafford, a B-17 Bomber Pilot was killed in the Schweinfurt ball bearing plant bombing raid over Germany. Trudy then joined the American Red Cross and served as Recreation Director in military hospitals in the South.
After her marriage to Robert Gill, June 4, 1945, she joined the staff of Queens College, first working in the Music department and later as Assistant to the Dean of Students. She retired from UNC Charlotte, where she worked as Assistant to the Director of Housing, responsible of all housing assignments. It was a position she thoroughly enjoyed and where she made many lifelong friends.
Trudy and Irvin Dillard Robbins married in October of 1984, and lived on Chilton Place in Charlotte until his death. Trudy then moved to Plantation Estates Retirement Community in Matthews, NC.
She was a charter member of Providence Baptist Church where she served as their first secretary, and for several years as the financial secretary. She was a member of the choir and superintendent of the Intermediate Department of Sunday School. She volunteered with Meals on Wheels, and played viola and violin with the Charlotte Symphony, the Charlotte Opera Orchestra and the NC Symphony.
Trudy is survived by her sister, Margot Anderson of Richmond, VA; nieces, Ann (Al) Moore of Spartanburg, SC, Susan Bishop of Mechanicsville, VA; nephews, Edwin (Jeannie) Echerd of The Villages, FL, Stephen (Bonnie) Echerd of Fairfax, CA, Andy (Phyllis) Anderson of Centreville, VA, and Daniel (Stephanie) Anderson of Mechanicsville, VA. She was preceded in death by her husband, Irvin Dillard Robbins, and sister, Alleine Grimes Echerd.
A service by the graveside will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, February 17th at Forest Lawn West Cemetery, Freedom Drive, Charlotte.
The family is very grateful for the many years of service given by Trudy’s caregiver, Karen Futchel.
