Glenn was born on October 11, 1959, in South Hill, VA to the late Hoody Butterworth and Helen Valentine.
Glenn grew up in South Hill, VA with his siblings. Growing up he attended an all-boys boarding school, where he developed a love for music through playing clarinet, trombone, and singing. He later sang with Charlotte’s Singing Christmas Tree, was a member of various church choirs, then found his home with the choir of Amity Presbyterian Church.
Glenn had other loves and fun hobbies. He was an avid and professional baker, who could make an outstanding cheesecake. He also had a quirky side that showed his love for the SCI-FI genre. As a man of many talents, you could often find him building computers from scratch. Glenn also was a car lover and had a specific love for Volkswagens.
Those who knew Glenn will always remember him for his goofiness and his loud “big belly” laugh that could fill a room. He has often been described as gregarious, yet most importantly he was full of love and is very treasured by his family and friends.
Glenn was preceded home by his mother, Helen; his father, Hoody; and siblings, Lewis, Leon, and Alice.
He leaves to cherish his precious memories of his daughters, Meredith and Dana; grandchildren, Camryn and Kendrick; brother, Ronnie; and a host of other family and friends.
