Gregg, 75, passed away peacefully Wednesday, September 22, 2021 at his home in Charlotte. He was in the company of his loving family. Born October 1, 1945 in Washington, D.C., he was the son of the late Melvin and Ursul Hollidge.
Following graduation from Northwest High School, he attended the University of Maryland. He served as a ranger in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. Afterwards, he became a sales representative for ALCOA in Ohio. He decided to pursue his life’s ambition as a trader, accepting a position with Merrill Lynch in Atlanta; his career in the stock market began. A few years later, he joined Prudential-Bache and relocated to Virginia Beach, where he met and married Suzanne, his wife of over 40 years. He later took a position within the company, re-locating to Charlotte in 1979. He spent 45 years as a wealth manager.
Gregg was an avid hunter and fisherman, enjoying his many adventures throughout the southeast. Gregg was often found on athletic fields and courts where he was a devoted coach to his children and their friends. He was also his children’s biggest fan.
With his quick wit, abundance of stories, and friendly manner, Gregg brought joy and laughter everywhere he went. People who met Gregg did not forget him. In recent years, one of his greatest pleasures was taking the time to sit outside and enjoy the beauty of his yard; he had a special fondness for his azaleas.
His children were his pride and joy, not only for their accomplishments, but most importantly for their kind, caring hearts.
He is survived by his wife, Suzanne; three children, Douglas Hollidge (wife, Victoria Hollidge) and Allison Hohas (husband, Clifford Hohas), both of Charlotte, and Bradley Hollidge (wife, Emily Hollidge) of Rockville, MD; and five beloved grandchildren, Olivia, Aidan, and Wells Hollidge, Phoebe and Lila Hohas; as well as his sister, Anita Slye of Levittown, PA.
The family will be receiving friends between 4:00 and 6:00 pm Friday, October 1, 2021 on the patio of The Palm, 6705-B, Phillips Place Court. A private family ceremony will be held at a later time.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in Gregg’s memory be made to Sardis Presbyterian Church, 6100 Sardis Road, Charlotte, NC 28270, or Hospice & Palliative Care Charlotte Region, 7845 Little Ave., Charlotte, NC 28226.
