March 14, 1962 in Mecklenburg County to Earl Driggers and the late Jeanette Driggers. Gwen graduated
from Independence High School in 1980 where she played on the basketball team. She went on to attend
Appalachian State University where she studied graphic design. She worked as Vice President of
Purchasing in the family business, Driggers Electric & Control Company, for over 30 years. In her childhood,
Gwen participated fully in the supportive and loving Church Family at Philadelphia Presbyterian Church in
Mint Hill. Later in life, she enjoyed worshiping at Central Church of God. Her passions were many. First
and foremost was her love of God and family. Gwen will be remembered for her generosity and her loving
and gentle ways that touched many – even in the midst of a long ongoing illness. Her greatest joy was
loving and being loved by her family and the time she got to spend with them. Gwen was passionate
about animals and their welfare. She supported the Humane Society and pet rescue efforts. She had
a special appreciation for the beauty and smarts of Siberian Huskies and lovingly had three in her life,
most recently her beloved Gabbie, who was a rescue pet. Gwen was an avid sports fan including
ACC basketball and football. The Panthers have lost one of their biggest supporters. Her father,
Earl and Gwen watched most games together and would cheer so loud Gabbie had to leave the room.
She was very talentedin the areas of design, style and decorating and our world was much more beautiful for it.
She was a staunch Republican through the thick and thin, just like her parents and brother. Watching HGTV
was a favorite pastime and flowers in her hands turned into a work of art. She took great pleasure in
designing family reunion invitations and programs – one effort ncluded a whole wall family tree. She
directed and produced a family reunion show that featured female impersonators that brought down
the house. Many family visits were filled with card games, Pictionary and Rummikub. Her artistic
ability gave her Pictionary team a distinct advantage. Some of her favorite TV shows were NCIS
and Downton Abbey. The NCIS crew was like a second family to Gwen. Music was another interest
and she enjoyed a trip to Philadelphia with her adoring sister Carol to see her favorite band – U2.
She was so appreciative for all the help and support she got from her brother-in-law, David. She delighted
in going to see her nephews play basketball and her adorable niece’s beauty pageants with Mom, Chris
and Kelly. To know Gwen was to love her. She will be remembered by her family, friends, and anyone
she met for her beauty, wittiness, sensitivity and compassion. Gwen is pre-deceased by her mother and her niece,
Destiny Stafford. She is survived by her father, sister Carol Driggers (David Hatch), brother Chris Driggers (
Kelly) and nephews J.R. and Alex and many loving aunts, uncles and cousins.
