Master Sergeant (Retired) Harold R. Atkinson “Sarge”, age 93, of Charlotte passed away on November 30, 2014 at his home. He was a WWII Veteran and retired from the United States Army after 26 years of service. He later retired from Pepsi Cola. He is preceded in death by wife of 60 years, Katherine Lett Atkinson. Survivors include daughter, Judy Freeman (John); grandchildren, Joey Rudick (Kaye), Brian Rudick (Kelly), and Sara Freeman; 5 great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends on Friday, December 5, from 12:00-1:00 p.m. at McEwen Funeral Service Charlotte, 5716 Monroe Road. A Funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. in the funeral home chapel. Interment will follow in Forest Lawn West Cemetery with full military honors. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Wounded Warrior Project or Alzheimer’s Association.
