Harris Luther Woodside

October 24, 1947November 20, 2019

Harris Luther Woodside, 72, died November 20, 2019 at Lake Park Rehab Center. Harris, son of the late D. Mack Woodside and A. Rochelle “Chellie” Luther Woodside, was born October 24, 1947 in Charlotte.

While at Myers Park High School, Harris held the record for number of passes and touchdowns caught. He was selected for All City, All County, and the State East/West All Star game in Greensboro, NC, leading to a football scholarship to the University of South Carolina. He retired from a successful career in sales in the field of Information Technology, working with Hitachi Data Systems and later developing his own consulting services, PRISM.

Harris was preceded in death by his sisters, Donna Woodside Saunders and Diane Woodside McGowan.

He is survived by his brother, Don Woodside (Christina); brothers-in-law, Lewis Saunders and Bob McGowan; and several nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews. Family times were regularly filled with his ready laughter and fun spirit. He was full of surprises.

A celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, December 7 at 1:30 pm at Southern Evangelical Seminary, 15015 Lancaster Hwy., Charlotte. A graveside service will be held at Evergreen Cemetery, 4426 Central Ave., Charlotte, NC on Monday, December 9 at 11:30 a.m.

Harris knows the Lord as his Savior; for all eternity he is in a place where “there will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away” (Rev. 21:4). As Jesus said, "I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in me, though he die, yet shall he live, and everyone who lives and believes in me shall never die. Do you believe this?" (John 11:24-25)

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Southern Evangelical Seminary scholarship fund.

Don, your mother Shellie was such a spirit as were all her children whom she dearly loved. I have such great memories of her being our next door neighbor on Biltmore Drive. I am thinking of you as I know you have lost so many family members.

Woody was my friend. I had the chance to visit him at the University of South Carolina. Genuinely a nice person. Sorry to hear he had health issues to deal with the last couple of years. Will miss the boy.

I first met "Woody" at Paradyne in the 1970's. Ever since, our paths crossed at HDS and after he left, we stayed in touch as he lived in the Columbia area. Fond memories of our friendship as my "Brother" from another Mom. I'm very sad to have lost my other Brother!

I worked with Woody for many years and we became friends throughout that time. My wife and I are so sorry to hear about his passing. We will miss him and remember the laughs and good times we had together.
