

After serving with the U.S. Navy in World War II, he attended George Washington University in 1952 and graduated from the medical program. Upon graduation, Harvey became a physician, specializing in Urology. He made house calls, treated patients without regard to their ability to pay for his medical services, taught international medical interns, and mentored young physicians.
He was a member of Mallard Creek Presbyterian Church where he served on session, taught Sunday School Class, and worked at the church barbeque for many years. Harvey was a previous moderator of the Mecklenburg Presbytery. In retirement, he took great pride in working alongside his father on the family farm.
Survivors include his 5 children. Eric Johnston, Robin Faison (Yates), Kurt Johnston, Brent Johnston (Catherine), and Amy Johnston (Mark Green); 4 grandchildren, Sylvia Johnston, Andrew Johnston, Thomas Johnston, and Emma Johnston.
Harvey was preceded in death by his wife, Roberta Owen Johnston and a brother, Raeford Johnston
Friends may visit with the family on Saturday, November 26, 2022 from 3:00 - 3:45 PM at McEwen Derita Chapel, 6300 Mallard Creek Road Charlotte, NC 28262, with full military honors provided by the U.S. Navy at 4 PM. A graveside service will be held at 4:30 PM at Mallard Creek Presbyterian Church Cemetery, 1600 W Mallard Creek Church Road, Charlotte, NC 28262.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the following organizations; First Presbyterian Church of Charlotte TV Ministry, Doctors without Borders, or WTVI.
