

She was born October 10, 1925 in Kannapolis, North Carolina the daughter of the late JR Lewis and Emmo Deeley Stafford Lewis. She is preceded in death by her husbands, Joseph W. Curry and Ray Gearen; companion, Herman Ferrell; and brother, Julius Lewis.
Mrs. Gearen worked as a book keeper at Neiman's Jewelry in uptown Charlotte during the 1950's and Cannon Aircraft Executive Terminal in the 1960's and 70's. She enjoyed cooking, gardening, and spending time with her grandchildren. Helen was supportive of her grandson's endeavors and later career with the Boy Scouts of America.
Surviving are her daughters, Elizabeth Parnell of Alexis, NC and Joie Blanchette of Denver, NC; grandchildren, James A Parnell of Concord, NC and Jessica Blanchette McGinnis of Denver, NC; great grandchildren, Aaron Parnell of Concord, and Wyatt McGinnis of Dallas; brother, Barry Lewis of Mooresville; sister, Hazel Wood of Mint Hill; and canine companion, Daisy.
A visitation will be held from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM Wednesday, November 2, 2011 at McEwen Funeral Service at Sharon Memorial Park, 5716 Monroe Road, Charlotte, NC 28212.
A funeral service will be held 2:00 PM Thursday, November 3, 2011 at Holy Comforter Episcopal Church, 2701 Park Road, Charlotte, NC 28209. Interment will follow in Charlotte Memorial Gardens.
