Helen Faggart Smith

Mrs. Smith, the daughter of the late George Lewis Faggart and Zula Blackwelder Faggart, was a Cabarrus County native. She is preceded in death by her husband E. Mason Smith, Jr. of Charlotte, her first husband, Raymond A. Gwin, who died from wounds received in WWII, sisters, Judson F. Hudson, Doris MacGregor, Mary Lewis Smith, and Elizabeth Smith and brother, Johnson B. Faggart, all of Concord.

Helen graduated from Winecoff High School and attended The Woman’s College of The University of North Carolina in Greensboro. She retired from Duke Energy as Administrator – Employee and Administrative Services after 35 years of service. Prior to working at Duke Energy, she was associated with Postway, Inc. in Concord, the Civil Service in Chicago, IL and was a Social Worker for the International Red Cross in Battle Creek, MI. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Charlotte, NC.

Helen was an avid gardener and a dear friend. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her. A very special “thank you” goes to all the members of the Aldersgate staff, as well as caregivers from Hospice – Charlotte Region.

A graveside service will be held on Monday, January 22, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. at Oakwood Cemetery, 461 Church Street North in Concord, NC. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Aldersgate UMRC, 3800 Shamrock Dr, Charlotte, NC 28215 or Hospice – Charlotte Region, 1420 East 7th St, Charlotte, NC 28204.
