Born in Pirmasens, Germany, she was the daughter of Rudolf Zinnecker and Luise Landerman. Helga’s love of travel took her across the world visiting places like Korea, Italy, Spain and France to mention a few. As the wife of a U.S. Army 1st Sgt., she spent time living in Japan, various parts of Germany and the United States. Helga ultimately made her home in Charlotte, North Carolina.
Helga dedicated many years of her life to education and shaping young minds. She was a German Immersion teacher for over 20 years and built countless relationships with students and colleagues. Helga is known for her generosity and sense of humor. She opened her home to many teachers in the German program and never expected anything in return.
Helga’s true passions were reading, showing pictures of her grandson Noah, and beating everyone in Rummikub.
Helga is survived by her loving husband of 42 years, Eddy, daughter Kerstin Vogel, son in-law Josh, and her beloved grandson Noah. Helga also left behind her brothers Martin and Gerhard Zinnecker, and sister Christa Kohler who still reside in Germany.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly invites you to honor Helga’s memory in a more personal way; by sharing a note, a photo, a memory, or a few heartfelt words about what she meant to you.
