

Herman was preceded in death by his loving wife Marjorie Blinson Parker. He is survived by his two sons Robert and Marc and his wife Stephanie Phillips, his four grandchildren Lillian, Parker, Demetrius, and Milo. He is additionally survived by his sister Reba Avant and numerous nieces, nephews and their wonderful families.
Herman served in the Air Force for four years, graduated from the University of North Carolina, and remained an avid Tarheel and ACC basketball fan until his passing. While teaching in Raleigh, Herman met the love of his life, Majorie Blinson from Clayton, NC.
Herman and Marjorie eventually moved to Jacksonville, NC, where they settled into their careers as educators for the Camp LeJeune School System. They raised their two sons, enjoyed sailing, golf, tennis, camping and were active in the First Presbyterian Church. Herman worked as a principal at various schools in the Camp LeJeune School system, until his retirement in 1992. He continued to enjoy golf and tennis with his numerous friends, sailing on the New River, and remained an active member of the church during his retirement years.
Herman moved to Charlotte in 2007 to be closer to his son Marc and his long-time family friends, the Sloans. In 2012 he moved in with Marc and Stephanie where he remained engaged with the rich social fabric that Marc and Stephanie provided. He is remembered as a great storyteller, an inspirational father, and a devoted husband to his late wife.
A private service with family and friends will take place in Charlotte, NC on March 8.
