Herman Parker Royal, 83, died October 13, 2018, in Charlotte, North Carolina. A U.S. Navy veteran who barbered for nearly half a century, Herman faced every day with an infectious positive attitude. He traveled the world, setting foot on every continent on the globe. He was born July 12, 1935, to Fred and Lizzie (Parker) Royal in Sampson County, North Carolina. They preceded him in death. As a child, he worked on the family farm. After graduation from high school, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served during the Korean conflict. After completing his military service and barber school, he married Nancy (Lipe) Royal in 1959 and was a barber in Charlotte for 45 years, retiring in 2006. Nancy preceded him in death in 2003. Herman and Nancy had two sons: Derek Parker Royal, of Frisco, Texas, and Rodney Lee Royal of Charlotte, who died in 2014. In addition to his son, Herman is survived by his brother, Cecil Royal, of Burlington, NC; and five grandchildren: John Parker Royal, of Greensboro; Grayson Royal and Elijah Royal, of Charlotte; and Zachary Parker Royal and Zoe Charlotte Royal, of Frisco, Texas.
Services will be held on Wednesday, October 17, 2018 at 2:00pm at Forest Lawn West Funeral Home. A visitation will be held one hour prior at 1:00pm. Interment will be at Forest Lawn West Cemetery.
