

Hilda Smith Dailey passed away peacefully at home on September 21st, at the glorious age of 101. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 59 years, Cliff Dailey - her parents, Bennett and Mary Ann Smith - her sisters, Vergie Mae Greenwood (Doyle) and Gertha Jones (Bob) , and her brother, Ray Smith (Ernestine). She is survived by her daughter, Sharon Dailey, and many precious nieces, nephews, grands, friends – and great granddaughter, and namesake, Matilda Skolnick.
Hilda was born in Windle TN, graduated from Martin College, taught in a one-room schoolhouse in Tennessee prior to moving to Charlotte, NC in 1949 where she retired as supervisor in the Medical Unit of the Welfare Department.
Hilda was known as “The Bird Lady” and loved her flower gardens, especially azaleas and Lenten roses. Everyone loved and appreciated Hilda’s cooking and hospitality. She was kind hearted, giving, and touched many lives – a true Angel on Earth - she never had an unkind word for anyone. She was a life-long Methodist, devoted to her faith, family, and friends.
Services will be Wednesday, September 28, at McEwen Funeral Service, 5716 Monroe Road, Charlotte. Visitation will begin at 12:30pm. Service will follow at 2pm.Graveside will take place at Sharon Memorial Park.
