

A native of Rutherfordton, he was born on January 26, 1934 to the late Thomas Romeo Phillips and Annie Wilson Phillips. Mr. Phillips served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War and was a member of the VFW Canteen #9488. He retired from the Charlotte Fire Department in 1986 after 33 years of service and was an avid golfer and enjoyed trips to the family’s beach house in Calabash, NC. Mr. Phillips appeared in several television commercials including Bunker Hill Stew Beef and Redman Tobacco as well as minor acting appearances in movies and T.V.
A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held at 1:00 PM Wednesday, August 17th at the Derita Chapel of McEwen Funeral Service with Rev. Chris Fisher officiating. The family will receive friends following the service.
Mr. Phillips is survived by his wife of 55 years, Regina Goode Phillips; a son, Alan Scott Phillips and his wife Linda, of Charlotte; two grandchildren, Trace Phillips and Madi Phillips, both of Charlotte; two brothers, Willie Phillips and wife Charlotte, of Statesville, Robert Phillips and wife Sasa, of Orlando, FL; a sister, Eva Smith and husband Smitty, of Bedford, VA; his Rottweiler, Chopper and numerous nieces and nephews.
