Born, Irmgard Martha Gehrke in Berlin, Germany on March 19, 1933. She is survived by 3 daughters, 1 son, 4 grandchildren and 1 great grandson and her extended family as well the Willoughby-Mace family who meant more to her than they will ever know. She is also survived by her sister, Helga, brother-in-law Martin and a niece/goddaughter Pia.
She came in to the United States to live the American Dream. She was able to obtain her US citizenship in June of 1961, which she was extremely proud of. She learned English by watching TV and then attending the Community College in her area.
She started working for a local travel agency so she could visit her Mother and Sister back home. She went on to establish her own agency several years later from a Small Business Loan from NCNB and a client who had faith in her abilities.
She lived a very well-traveled life not only traveling back home but all across the world. Living for a time in the Canary Islands in a condo overlooking the coast. Her passion was dancing, spending time with friends and traveling with her daughter, Astrid.
Anyone that had the opportunity to spend time with her was truly blessed. She will be extremely missed and we look forward to the time we will meet again.
Arrangements under the direction of McEwen Funeral Services, Charlotte, NC.
