She was born April 4, 1935, the daughter of the late Kemp and Sadie Lovett.
Susie was a retired nurse from Carolinas Medical Center-Mercy.
In addition to her parents, Susie was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Robert Nash Townsend; son, Robert Wayne Townsend, and four sisters and one brother.
She is survived by her son, Jerry and his wife, Patsy; son, Jeff, of Indian Trail; daughter-in-law, Teresa Townsend, of Matthews; five grandchildren; and nine great grandchildren.
The family will greet friends Tuesday, January 19, 2016, at Noon at the McEwen-Pineville Chapel, 10500 Park Road in Charlotte, followed by her funeral service at 1 p.m. Reverend Ron Hanna of the Shiloh Baptist Church of Monroe will officiate. Entombment will follow in the Sharon Memorial Park Mausoleum.
