Jack Grover Bruce Sr., 89, passed away on Wednesday, June 24, 2020. Jack was born to the late Lloyd Bruce and Mary Korican in Dickson, Tennessee, on April 8, 1931. Jack grew up in Britton, Michigan and graduated from Britton High School in 1949. He joined the United States Marine Corps in 1951 and served three years at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina, until honorably discharged as a Sergeant in 1954. In the summer of 1952, at Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, Jack met the love of his life, the former Betty Jo Haigler, and the two married in 1953 establishing residence at Camp Lejeune. With his discharge from the Marine Corps in 1954, Jack and Betty moved back to Jack’s hometown of Britton. After spending a year in Britton, they moved to Charlotte, North Carolina, where they lived and raised a family with Jack Bruce Jr. born in 1956 and daughter Penny Jo born in 1962. In 1955, Jack was selected for service in the City of Charlotte Police Department. Over the course of a distinguished 31 year career in the Charlotte Police Department, Jack received a number of decorations for outstanding acts of service, and retired in 1986. Jack’s hobbies and interests included sports, golf, gardening, and investing. He and Betty are long time members of the Hickory Grove Baptist Church of Charlotte, North Carolina. At Hickory Grove, Jack and Betty were members of the Friendly Bread Breakers Sunday School class who’s members they dearly loved. Jack is preceded in death by his wife Betty Jo, and brothers Richard and Thomas Bruce. He is survived by his son Jack Bruce Jr. of Charlotte, North Carolina, Penny Bruce Lamb of Madison, Alabama, and grandchildren, Shane Bruce, Jack Bruce III, Captain Will Lamb, Megan Lamb Carey, and five great grandchildren. Visitation will take place at McEwen Funeral Service, 5716 Monroe Road, Charlotte on Sunday, June 28, 2020 beginning at 12:30pm. Funeral Service will follow at 2:00pm. Interment will take place at Sharon Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Fraternal Order of Police, Lodge 9.

Sorry To Hear Passing of Uncle Jack. So many memories of Haigler Family Gatherings. I remember He was Tall Handsome Uncle especially in his Police Uniform. Always enjoyed chatting with Uncle Jack about Golf.
