

Jack H. Mattox, beloved husband, father, brother and friend, passed away on February 17, 2024, leaving behind a legacy of family, hard work, sporting prowess and laughter. He was born in Charlotte to the late Frances and James Ormand Mattox.
Jack was a Southern gentleman, polite and honest, with kind, blue eyes. He was a crackling fire on a winter day and a summer Jeep ride with the top down. He was a January oyster roast, cooking, shucking, telling stories and laughing. He was a box full of tools, one for every task. He was a phone call away, ready to help. He was a kiss goodbye at dawn as he left to go fishing. He was in the bleachers at every game. He was the best friend. He was a bear hug with two pats and "How are you getting along?" He was turn it up and let’s dance. He was Friday night steaks-rare, cool in the middle. He was be careful, check your tires and what is that noise? He was Hickory Grove, the farm, quail hunting and driving Grandaddy. He was work hard, don’t be an Alice. He was church on Sunday, count your blessings.
Jack is survived by his wife of 37 years, Jennifer Mattox; son, Philip Mattox; daughter, Kate Mattox; brothers, Jim Mattox (Sissy) and John Mattox (Lynda); sister, Jan Henderson; in-laws, Ed Hardin, Mark Hardin, Jeff Hardin, Chris Hardin (Kim), Julie Hardin and Jon Hardin; and many nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held at St. Matthew Catholic Church on Tuesday, February 27, 2024, at 1:00 pm. Please join the family immediately following the service at Tap & Vine Stonecrest to celebrate Jack.
