

Jack Wood, 84, of Dobson, NC, passed away on February 8, 2024, in Charlotte, NC. He was born on January 28, 1940. Jack was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends.
Jack was a proud army veteran, having served in the US Army. After his military service, he began his civilian career as a police officer in Richmond, Virginia, with the Richmond City Police Force. Later, he transitioned to the automotive industry and worked as a Fleet Sales Manager at Town and Country Ford. Jack's dedication and hard work were evident throughout his career.
In his free time, Jack enjoyed various hobbies. He was an avid golfer and loved spending time outdoors fishing and hunting. Jack also had a passion for cooking and could often be found in the kitchen preparing delicious meals. Music was another one of his interests, and he enjoyed playing the guitar. He was also a devoted fan of Wake Forest sports.
Jack was a storyteller at heart and could captivate an audience with his tales of childhood and military life. He cherished his time spent with family and friends, especially during gatherings. Jack's strength and perseverance were remarkable, and he remained vibrant until the end.
He is survived by his loving wife, Darlis Wood, his children Susan Espinosa and her husband, Jorge, Jacqui Wheeler and her husband, Trip, Robert Wood, and Melanie Gilstrap and her husband, Dave. Jack is also survived by his sisters Libby Ammons, Doris Ross, and Dorothy Coley, as well as his grandchildren Alyssa Coughlin, Madison Kelley, Grant Coughlin, Corbin Wood, and Summer Wood. He was blessed with a great-grandson, Mason Coughlin.
Jack was preceded in death by his parents, Phola and Bonnie Wood, and his sister Brenda Davis.
A memorial service to celebrate Jack's life will be held at Wilson Funeral Home, located at 5301 Albemarle Road in Charlotte, NC. Following the service, a graveside ceremony will take place at Evergreen Cemetery.
