

Mrs. Jacqueline “Jackie” Whittemore Kendall of Charlotte, NC passed away on Thursday, August 23, 2012. Born in Graham, NC she was the daughter of the late Mr. Clyde Atwood Whittemore, Sr., and Mrs. Madeline Ray Whittemore. She was educated in the public schools of Alamance County and graduated from Burlington Business College. She worked for the Department of Psychiatry at the University of North Carolina (UNC) Hospital in Chapel Hill, NC for six years while her husband was a student at UNC Chapel Hill, and the UNC School of Dentistry. Later she assisted her husband with his dental practice until she retired in 2000. She was a member of the Charlotte Dental Auxiliary.
She is survived by her husband, Dr. James Eugene Kendall, Sr. of Charlotte, NC; her son, Dr. James Eugene “Kenny” Kendall, Jr., and his wife Gretchen of Greenville, NC; and her daughter, Mary Kimberly Kendall Stone and her husband David of Charlotte, NC; grandchildren, William Holten Kendall, Chauncey Arden Kendall, Zachary Marsh Cutlip and Anna Wesley Stone; nine nieces, six nephews, their families; and many dear friends.
Mrs. Kendall was one of eleven children, six girls and five boys. She is survived by one brother, Mr. Charles Ervin Whittemore of Graham, NC. She was preceded in death by her siblings, Miss Elizabeth Ray Whittemore, Mrs. Geneva Whittemore Fitch, Miss Thester Marie Whittemore, Mr. George Settle Whittemore, II, Mr. Clyde Atwood Whittemore, Jr., Mr. James William Whittemore, Mr. David Long Whittemore, Mrs. Cassandra Whittemore Setzer, and Mrs. Betsy Whittemore White. Mrs. Kendall was also preceded in death by her beloved six-year-old granddaughter, Ava Frances Kendall of Greenville, NC.
Jackie possessed a strong Christian faith, and was a member of the Historic Providence Christian Church in Graham, NC. She will always be remembered for her kindness, generosity, and the ways in which she showed compassion and love for others. Her spirit and enthusiasm for life will truly be missed. The family wishes to thank Mrs. Sarah L. Woodard for her years of friendship, care, and assistance; the Charlotte Medical Clinic Doctors, Nurses, and Staff; and the Medical Staff at Carolinas Medical Center.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 8, 2012 at the Historic Providence Christian Church, 819 N. Main St., Graham, NC 27253, by Reverend Darryl R. Peebles. The family will receive visitors at 12:30 p.m. with the service following at 1:00 p.m. Interment will follow immediately after the service at Linwood Cemetery.
