Jackie was born in Timmonsville, SC to John and Hannah Aiken on October 8, 1929. She graduated from Timmonsville High School, studied at Winthrop College and Presbyterian Hospital in Charlotte, NC. She was a dedicated nurse for more than 25 years while also serving as a loving wife and mother.
Her greatest role came later, where she would receive the title of “Grandma Jackie” among her church community and neighborhood. She was, indeed, a grandmother to everyone who knew her, and her passion for children flourished in 1988 when she became a preschool teacher and nanny. She loved children with her whole heart, and thus became a local “grandmother” where you could always drop in for a meal, or conversation, or especially, a hug. Her love for the role of grandmother was only overshadowed by her service to the Lord. Jackie wore her love for Jesus on the exterior and was known for being generous, spunky and full of light. All who knew her believe that Heaven gained an extraordinary angel.
Jackie is preceded in death by her husband Bill. She is the eldest sibling of John Aiken, Molly Cobb and Rick Aiken.
Jackie is the Mother of Brenda (married to Mike Smith), Jennifer (married to Steve Parker), Marsha (preceded in death), Barbara (married to Tim Caldwell, Sr.)
Stepmother of Roger (Frances) Simpson and Sylvia LaBarge.
Grandmother of Tim Caldwell (married to Heather Caldwell), Roger Harry (married to Jessica Harry), Sarah Nester (married to Joshua Nester), Ginger Parker, Joseph Caldwell, Bryan Parker & Taylor Parker.
Great Grandmother of Trinity, Kayla, McKenzie, Damien, Cassidy, Scarlett & Kinley, and another great grandchild on the way.
The family wishes to express their gratitude for those who loved her and visited her in her home throughout the past 15 years she lived alone. We know there are countless people to thank.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to East Baptist Church Children's Playground Fund or Amity Presbyterian Pre-School.
