So sorry to hear of Dr. Black's death-he was very generous to the Mint Hill Historical Society and the Carl J. McEwen Historic Village and we will always treasure his donations.

My sincerest condolences to Betty, Jim and David. While others will get credit for building up the bricks and mortar hospital giants in Charlotte, Jim spent 40 years recruiting the best physicians to support the community. His legacy will not be forgotten by those of us that he and Betty brought to Charlotte. Sheryl and I thank you, Jim. Rest in Peace.

As Jim's first cousin, I always called him Jinky. We played together with rocks and acorns at our Grandfather's home on a mountain in Bessemer City. Later we roomed together at the home of our uncle, Dr. Spurgeon Black, at old Wake Forest. I cannot believe he is gone. Shirley and I send our sympathy to Betty and their family, of whom he was so proud.

My life was made richer by the hundreds of experiences we shared during our youth. A valued friend. Great sense of humor.
