James Anthony Breshears, Jr., a disabled U.S. Army veteran, and FAA Compliance Officer with United Technology Aerospace Systems, died unexpectedly in Charlotte, NC, on November 14, 2016, at the age of 53.
James is survived by his wife, Amy (née Owens); mother, Margaret Shipman Breshears; father, James Anthony Breshears, Sr.; brothers Ricky and Jeff, and their children; step-brother, Gary, step-sisters, Nita, Gayla and Becky, and their children; mother and father-in-law, Rev. Bob and Norma Owens; sisters-in-law, Jan, Julie, and Melissa, brother-in-law, Robert, and their families. One of the greatest joys in James’ life was being an uncle. He loved each and every one of his nieces and nephews, whether near or far.
James was born in Antlers, OK, on November 17, 1962. He graduated from Talihina High School in Talihina, OK, and later the Spartan School of Aeronautics in Tulsa, OK. James proudly served in the U.S. Army from 1985 to 1991. He was an AH-1 Cobra Attack Helicopter Crew Chief. His desire to complete a military career was interrupted by unexpected military-related injuries which resulted in a medical discharge. James went on to work in various aviation and quality control positions throughout his career.
James married the love of his life, Amy, on August 21, 1992, in Hawaii. He was a devoted husband who loved spending time with Amy, their dogs, and Amy’s family. He enjoyed gardening, reading, traveling, home brewing, woodworking and collecting unusual knives. He was large of stature and personality, had the kindest eyes, and his smile could light up any room. His friends called him Jimmy Jam, JJ, or Big Jim, and he was Uncle James to many in his extended family. He and Amy traveled to Ireland and Scotland, the land of his ancestors, on several occasions, where they both felt very much at home. James’ real passion was rescuing Boston Terriers with Amy. Over the years they rescued and fostered countless dogs, including many in hospice care, and adopted more than ten. He will be deeply missed by his friends, family, and all who knew him.
A private celebration of James’ life will be held November 18, 2016, at Wilson Funeral Home. Reverend Owens will officiate. Brother-in-law Rev. Robert Owens, nephew Rev. Chris Thomas, sister-in-law Julie Owens, nephew Josh Owens and other family members will participate. Military honors and an American flag ceremony will be included. The service will also feature bagpipe music from James’ beloved ancestral home, Scotland, and elements of his Cherokee heritage.
Cards can be sent to Amy Owens Breshears, 401 Hawthorne Ln # 110-304, Charlotte, NC 28204.
