

Born May 5, 1933 in Buffalo Springs, Virginia, he was the son of the late James Thomas Glasscock and Pattie Virginia Hite Glasscock. Following graduation from Clarksville High School, he was on his way to play baseball for NC State. This was interrupted by his service to the US Army for two years.
He worked for Americon and JP Stevens in Southern Pines before beginning his career in banking with Southern National Bank in Lumberton, NC. He retired in Charlotte, NC from BB&T.
James was a member of Stough Memorial Baptist Church in Pineville, NC.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 36 years, Helen Ruth Garner before she passed in 1993, their daughter, Helen Hope Glasscock, brother, Frankie Glasscock, and a sister, Rachel Bowen. He is survived by his two children, Tim Glasscock (Julia) of Mount Holly, Jan Jones (Derick) of Charlotte, and seven beloved grandchildren, Joseph Williamson, Daniel Glasscock, Mason Bass, Carson Bass, Kate Lepley, Tucker Lepley and Casey Lepley. In addition he is survived by his sister Shirley Baird (Bryant) of Virginia.
His family was one of the joys of his life. As a devoted father and grandfather, he attended all school and sports activities as well as numerous dance recitals. He loved to attend and be part of the excitement of the game. He enjoyed golf, softball, bowling, and watching sports especially NASCAR racing. He was always the life of any gatherings. His sweet smile and quick witted humor will be missed.
After retirement, he volunteered at Presbyterian Hospital for 6,000 hours. He enjoyed the many volunteers he worked with as well as the patients he encountered.
A graveside service to celebrate James’ life will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, July 25, 2020 at West End Cemetery, Knox Lane at Hwy 211, West End, NC. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, social distancing and face coverings will be required.
The family would like to thank Christine Washington for her love and care for “Mr. James".They were a great team full of laughs, and endless stories. She was our frontline hero. We would also like to thank Pete, Cindy, nurses, doctors and the team at Carrington Place.
