James R. Hasty

Mr. James Roland Hasty, 96, of Charlotte, entered into rest on Wednesday, August 17, 2016 at Carolinas Medical Center-University. A native of Mecklenburg County, North Carolina, he was the last surviving child of nine of the late Walter Franklin and Sarah Frances Barefoot Hasty. In addition to his parents and siblings, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 69 years, Jimmie Bowyer Hasty. He was the owner of Hasty and Associates. He was a member of the First Church of God, located on Albemarle Road in Charlotte and was a Lay Pastor. A veteran of the US Army, he was the recipient of the Purple Heart, the Bronze Star, and the French Legion of Honor. He served in Northern France, Germany and England. James had a strong faith in God and lived his life in accordance with the precepts of his faith. He loved the game of golf which he had played since he was a teenager. He was a caddy at the Charlotte Country Club as a young man.

Mr. Hasty is survived by his daughter, Lorene Hasty Wells and husband John G. Wells of Anderson and North Webster, Indiana. Also surviving, are grandchildren, Kelley Wells of Waterford, WI; Jonathon James Wells and wife Monica of Fishers, IN; and Michael Patrick Wells and wife Julianne of Beaverton, OR; and five great-grandchildren. A sister-in-law, Patricia Hasty of Charlotte, also survives him. Numerous loving nieces and nephews survive him as well.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, August 20, 2016 from 2:00 until 3:00 PM at McEwen Funeral Service at Sharon Memorial Park. A service celebrating the life of Mr. Hasty will follow the visitation in the Chapel at 3:00 PM with Pastor Larry McCaw officiating. Interment will follow in the Gardens of Sharon Memorial Park with full Military Honors. Everyone is invited to join in continuing the Celebration of James's life by attending the repast at First Church of God, 5300 Albemarle Road, Charlotte, North Carolina 28212.
