

James Carroll Hitch was born in St Mary’s County, MD, on January 5, 1936, to George Raymond Hitch and Agnes Thompson Hitch. Carroll passed away on March 19, 2025. Carroll graduated from Blair HS in Silver Springs, MD and attended Maryland University where he played baseball and soccer. He was the Captain of the American Legion Baseball Team that won the State Championship in 1952.
Carroll was an avid hunter and fisherman and loved his log cabin in the Shenandoah Valley. He loved spending time with his brothers and close friends at the cabin in the months of October and November.
Carroll was preceded in death by his father, mother, and brother Ralph Hitch. He is survived by his loving daughter, Jeanne Hitch Efaw of Charlotte, NC, (Dale Efaw) his brother Raymond Hitch of Benedict MD. He was the beloved Papa to his granddaughter, Christine Efaw, her fiancé, Jamie Lowery, and his great-granddaughter, Nora Lowery. He also has many nieces, nephews, and many special friends.
Carroll was employed with Sears for 24 years on the management team in MD and VA. He then moved over to Allstate Insurance Company where he was very successful over the next 21 years. He won multiple trips and awards before retiring.
Over the last 2 years, Carroll called Cadence Assisted Living in Huntersville, NC his home. Carroll loved the staff and residence. He participated in Bingo, mass on Fridays, and wheelchair exercise. While at Cadence, Carroll was placed in Hospice Care. Every member of the staff provided him with exceptional care, forming a very special bond with him.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to Cadence Huntersville and VIA Health Partners Hospice/Palliative Care, the Davidson Team, for their unwavering support, kindness, and compassionate care during Carroll’s final days. Their dedication brought great comfort and peace to both Carroll and his loved ones.
Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family from 10:15 AM until 10:55 AM on Tuesday, April 8, 2025, at St Mark Catholic Church, 14740 Stumptown Rd, Huntersville, NC. The Funeral Mass will follow at 11:00 AM, with Fr. Chinonso officiating.
