

James A. Lowe of Charlotte, N.C. passed away Sunday, September 29, 2013. A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held at 11:00 am on Wednesday, October 2, 2013 at Myers Park United Methodist Church, Charlotte, N.C., with Reverend William Roth officiating. Entombment in Sharon Memorial Park will be private. The family will receive friends from 9:30 to 10:45 am prior to the service in Jubilee Hall.
Mr. Lowe was born April 19, 1922 to the late Albert Lee Lowe and Florence Pierce Lowe. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 59 years, Lina Rhodes Lowe.
Mr. Lowe served in World War II from August 1942 until December 1945. He was in the U.S. Navy, where he served as an electrician. He joined the reserves, and was called to serve in the Korean Conflict from September 1950 until February 1952. Mr. Lowe was a graduate of N.C. State University School of Engineering. He was employed a number of years, by Duke Power Company in Greensboro and by GTE Sylvania in Charlotte. While in Greensboro, he served on the Board of Directors of the Home Economics Foundation of The University of N.C. at Greensboro, and was also an active member of the Greensboro Jaycees. In his professional life, he served on various committees and boards of the Professional Engineers of N.C. As a member of Myers Park United Methodist Church, he was active in serving on The Official Board and other commissions and committees. He was a member of the Fellowship Class at the church and served in many capacities. He and Lina moved to Aldersgate Retirement Community in1993. In his retirement, he served as a member of the Home Council, Advisory Board, and Board of Directors at Aldersgate.
He is survived by his son, Gregory Lowe and wife Susan of Weddington, N.C.; his grandson, Michael G. Lowe of Charlotte N.C.; and his sister, Bertha McGee of High Point, N.C. He was preceded in death by his brother, Jesse Lowe.
He will be lovingly remembered by his family and friends for his kind spirit and devotion to his church and community. He was always first to respond to those in need, and will be missed by all who knew him.
The family would like to thank the staff at Asbury Care Center, and the nurses of Hospice and Palliative Care of Charlotte for their kindness and care during the past year.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the Maintenance Fund of Myers Park United Methodist Church, 2010 Providence Rd., Charlotte NC, 28207.
