James Paul Martin Sr.

James Paul Martin, Sr., 88, went home to be with the Lord Sunday morning, April 22, 2018. Born on July 13, 1929 in Spindale, NC, Mr. Martin was a son of the late Reverend Fred T. Martin, Sr. and Zennie Mae Godfrey Martin. In addition to his parents, Mr. Martin was preceded in death by two grandchildren, Jacob Tyler Martin and Chad Martin and four brothers and one sister. A life member of the National Letter Carriers Association, Mr. Martin retired from the U.S. Postal Service where he delivered mail for over thirty years. He loved vacations to the beach and mountains. He was a huge fan of the UNC Tarheels and thoroughly enjoyed watching his children and grandchildren play sports. He was their biggest fan. Mostly, he loved spending time with family and friends. Survivors include his wife of 39 years, Diane Morris Martin; his children, Mickey Martin and wife Karen Joy of Lowell, NC, Paul Martin and wife, Vendora of Belmont, NC, Melissa Springs and son-in-law, Michael of Charlotte, NC and Karen Huffman and husband, David of Denver, NC; his grandchildren, Mickey Martin, Jr., Keith Martin, Danny Broadway, Alex Springs, Drew Rigley, Jacob Springs, Haley Osborn and Luke Huffman; four great grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren. Funeral services are planned for 1:00 pm on Wednesday, April 25, 2018 at McEwen Funeral Service-Derita Chapel, 6300 Mallard Creek Road, Charlotte, NC 28262. Visitation is from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm at the funeral home. Graveside services and burial will follow at Gethsemane Memorial Gardens.
