

Philip McGwier, 76, of Charlotte, NC passed away unexpectedly on Friday, October 26, 2012 at his home. He was born in Greensboro, NC, the beloved husband of the late Lina Hendley McGwier, and son of the late Frank and Odessa Helms McGwier.
He was a graduate of North Carolina State University, a lifelong NRA member, a member of the Charlotte Gun Club, and a member of the Queen City Corvette Club. Philip was a proud cancer survivor several times over. He was a Retired Deputy Sheriff of the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office, and he served in the National Guard and Air Force for four years, with two years service overseas.
The lives of Philip McGwier’s family and friends were enriched by his honesty, direct demeanor and humor. He was an avid car and motorcycle enthusiast, a trusted and valued friend to many in the law enforcement community, and was committed to enhancing the security of his own community by establishing a neighborhood patrol.
A service to celebrate his life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, November 2, 2012 at Myers Park Presbyterian Church. The family will receive friends following the service at the church. A graveside service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 3rd at the Concord United Methodist Church Cemetery in Ansonville, NC.
Philip is survived by his son, William Craighead McGwier, and his wife, Katherine Grace McGwier, and their daughter, Kaitlin Hendley McGwier; his brothers, Frank Paul McGwier and Alan Ross McGwier; sister-in-law, Kate Farr Waldron and her husband Pendleton G. Waldron, of Newton, NC, and their children, Kate Terrell Conklin and Warren Beatty Waldron of Charlotte, NC.
