Born on March 16, 1955 in Charlotte, Jim was the son of the late Frank Leslie Morecock and Beverly Collins Morecock. He was a member of St. Ann Catholic Church. Jim graduated from Charlotte Catholic High School in 1973, playing for the varsity football team and winning multiple trophies on the swim team. He went on to attend Appalachian State University and received his welding certificate from York Technical College. Over the years, Jim worked with Duke Energy and traveled to other plants in the field of nuclear welding.
Jim had many hobbies through the years, but his favorite one was renovating his Victorian Era home. Jim was an experienced painter and also had skills in carpentry and refinishing, bringing the home to its former glory almost single-handedly. He also enjoyed mechanical activities such as working on cars.
Jim adored spending time with his family. He had a great sense of humor and often made his children and grandchildren laugh. He was very knowledgeable about many subjects including space, science, and engineering. Jim shared his wisdom with others often.
He is survived by his two children: Melissa L. Morecock and her husband Jeffrey D. Leavitt, and Christen E. Stewart and her husband Jerry W. Pennell Jr.; his grandchildren Nicholas P. Stewart and Aubrey K. Stewart, and niece Jessica L. Gore.
He was predeceased in death by his sister Elizabeth, his sister Leslie, his brother Frank (Collins), and his nephew William.
He will be buried beside his loving older brother, Frank C. Morecock.
