After graduation in 1949, he hitchhiked to Miami, and worked in the hotel business as a lifeguard and cabana manager. In 1951, he was drafted into the Army and served as a Corporal stationed in Kyoto, Japan as a company clerk in a medical unit. He was discharged after 2 years of service in 1953. After retiring, he started a new venture and assisted a friend in opening a travel agency called Cruise Holidays. He also worked part-time at the Peninsula golf course in Cornelius, North Carolina. Jim’s gracious spirit led he and his wife to volunteer with the Charlotte Philharmonic Orchestra where they met and hosted many famous musicians.
Jim was a faithful member of Westminster Presbyterian Church for over 40 years where he also served as an elder. He enjoyed golfing, doing church activities and enjoyed fellowship with his friends.
