James was born in Charlotte, NC to the late Eugene Mullins and Hazel Beck Mullins on December 10, 1951. He worked as a jeweler and mechanic and worked for a time on a pit crew for a NASCAR racing team.
James is survived by his wife Patrice Boyd, children Jennifer Lavoie (Christopher), Jessica Mullins, Charles Boyd, Brent Boyd, Iain Boyd, grandchildren Savannah, Faith and Christopher.
A memorial service for James will be held Saturday, September 27, 2025 at 1:00 PM at St Michael The Archangel Anglican Church, 2211 Margaret Wallace Rd, Matthews, North Carolina 28105.
