James was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara S. Rhom; father, Max C. Rhom; and grandparents, Ernest & Lillie Bell Allison, and Cecil & Vina Mae Rhom.
James served in the United States Army under the 82nd Airborne and was a member of the Charlotte Fire Department for 29 years and retired as a Captain.
He is survived by survived by his mother, Polly Rhom; brothers Eddie & Michael Rhom; children, Christian Rhom Puckett and Christopher Scott Rhom; 6 grandchildren; 4 nephews and many other relatives and friends; and beloved caregiver, Mary Pringle.
A visitation will be held Tuesday, June 13 from 6pm to 9pm at Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church. The funeral service will be held Wednesday, June 14 at 2pm at Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church with burial at Hillcrest Gardens in Mount Holly.
