He was born on August 15, 1940, in Gastonia, North Carolina, to Aldon J. Riding and Floria L. Sexton.
James was a reserved yet compassionate man, known for his quiet strength, kindness, and unwavering faith. His faith was an important part of his life and guided him through both joyful and difficult times.
James is survived by his wife Patricia M. Riding, son James A. Riding Jr., daughter Brenda Riding, grandson Ian Brasfield and brother David L. Riding.
A memorial service will be held on Wednesday September 9th, 2026, at 2:00 pm at McEwen Funeral Home Pineville Chapal located at 10500 Park Rd., Charlotte, NC 28210. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to Pineville Church of the Nazarene or Truelife Fellowship Church.
James will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by his family and friends. His faith, strength, compassion, and devotion to his family will remain a lasting part of his legacy.
