

Jim was born May 28, 1934 to the late Boyce Merritt Steadman and Annie Kinard Steadman in Denmark, SC. Jim graduated from Denmark High School in 1952, and attended the University of South Carolina for two years before enlisting in the U.S. Navy for four years. Following his service in the Navy he returned to the University of South Carolina and earned an Electrical Engineering degree. He married Eileen Jones on June 30, 1963 in Adams Run, SC and they settled in Charleston, SC where he worked for Lockheed at the Naval Shipyard. In 1971 the family moved to Charlotte, NC for his career as a manufacturer’s representative. He retired in Charlotte and remained a life-long Gamecock fan and avid golfer.
He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Eileen Jones Steadman as well as their two children and families: James “Jay” Steadman and wife, Jennifer Merritt Steadman, Alexandria, VA, and Susan Eileen Steadman, Charleston, SC. Two granddaughters: Molly Eileen Steadman and Merritt Elyse Steadman, Alexandria, VA.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister Mary Steadman Mauney, formerly of Forest City, North Carolina. She recently passed away on August 5, 2017.
A Memorial Service and Reception will be held on Saturday, November 4, 2017 from 2:00 – 4:00 pm at McEwen Funeral Home in Pineville, NC. A graveside service will be held at Saint Paul Episcopal Church cemetery in Hollywood, SC on Friday, November 24, 2017 at 2:00 pm.
