He was born on February 27, 1936, a son of the late William Porter Widener and Effie Clementine Widener.
He is survived by his wife, Lydia B. Widener of Charlotte, NC, and son, James R Widener (Susan) of Essex Jct., VT; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Arthur and Antonia Bartlett of Wesley Chapel, NC.
He had a total of 9 siblings - 6 sisters and 3 brothers, surviving are: brother, Edgar Widener and sister, Madgie Barton. (both living in Virginia)
Fred retired as a Sergeant First Class from the Army after 23 years of service. Served in Korea and two tours in Vietnam. Also had tours of duty in Greenland, Germany, Alaska and Hawaii.
Services will be private for the family.
