Jane Betty Stern Tigler

Miss Jane passed away August 27, 2018 in Charlotte. She was born February 25, 1927 in Baltimore, MD to Maurice and Nettie Tucker Stern. She grew up in Andrews, SC with her parents and her younger brother Raymond, all of whom predeceased her. She graduated from Limestone College in 1948 with a degree in biology.

She was married to the love of her life, Leon Tigler, from November 21, 1948 until his death, shortly before their 60th wedding anniversary. Mr. Tig’s jobs moved them to various cities across the South, until they made their permanent home in Charlotte in 1963. After his retirement, they enjoyed spending time with their grandchildren, volunteering at Discovery Place, and travelling the world.

She is survived by her daughter, Anne Tigler Privette and husband Earl of Rapidan, VA; her daughter-in-law, Shoon Ledyard (widow of her son Joel) and Shoon’s husband Jim Goodwin of Charlotte; her grandchildren, Keith Privette, Rachel Privette, Stern Tigler and Julian Tigler; her brother-in-law, Murray Tigler; and many loving nieces and nephews.

Miss Jane was a member of Temple Beth El for over 45 years.

We wish to thank Tonya White, whose devoted care made it possible for Miss Jane to remain in her home, where she was comfortable in her surroundings and able to enjoy watching the changing displays of nature.

A private graveside service will be held, followed by a memorial service at a later date.
