Jane Oliver Deal, 87, died May 26, 2026. Born May 27, 1938, in Richmond, Virginia, Jane was the daughter of Ruth Stanley and Nathanial Smith Oliver. She later made her home in Charlotte, North Carolina.
Jane pursued her education with purpose and diligence, earning a BS in Lab Technology in 1960 from Queens University in Charlotte, NC. That steady commitment to learning became a hallmark of her life and work.
In 1971, Jane helped Dr. J.C. Parke open the J.C. Parke Cytogenetic Laboratory at CMC (now Atrium). Through 32 years of service, she brought steadfast dedication and a strong work ethic to her profession, retiring in 2003 after a career marked by reliability, skill, and pride in doing things well.
Jane was married to Reverend Pinckney Gustave Deal, III for 65 years, a partnership grounded in enduring love, loyalty and companionship. She is survived by her daughter, Jane Pepper Brundage (Chris); her grandchildren, Christopher (Alexis), Wesley (Brianna), and Smith (Cassidy); and six great-grandchildren.
In 2014, Jane and her husband moved to Aldersgate, where they made many friends. She found deep joy in the companionship of friends, especially at the bridge table—an interest she carried through her entire adult life. Adventurous in spirit, she and Gus loved to travel and explore visiting Alaska, the New England States, Mexico, Europe and many other places. At home, her faithful care extended to the living things around her, and she was known for her green thumb, gardens and love of flowers.
Jane will be remembered with respect and gratitude—for her devotion to her family, her loyal presence in the lives of those who knew her, and the quiet strength with which she met each season of life.
