

Jane Reynolds Depew, 91, of Charlotte, passed away September 3, 2012. She was born in Denver, Colorado, on May 21, 1921, the daughter of Laurence Keenan Reynolds and Jane Botterill Reynolds. Mrs. Depew attended Denver public schools and graduated in 1943 from the University of Denver, where she was a member of Gamma Phi Beta sorority. She taught in the Denver public schools until her marriage in 1946 to Dorr McLeod Depew. They lived in New York City and Westchester County, N.Y. before moving to Charlotte, N.C. in 1956.
Mrs. Depew was a member of Covenant Presbyterian Church for over 50 years, where she taught children’s Sunday School classes and led ladies’ circles for many years. She was an honorary life member of the Presbyterian Women. Mrs. Depew taught in the Charlotte-Mecklenburg school system as a long-term substitute and later as a third-grade teacher at Eastover School until her retirement in 1986.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Dorr M. Depew. Surviving are her son, Dorr Reynolds Depew (Christina), of Cheraw, SC; her daughter, Dr. Jane Young (Rick), of Raleigh, NC; three granddaughters, Amanda Verret (Greg), of Matthews, NC; Melanie Johnston (Rick), of Matthews, NC; Kate Massey (J.W.), of Tulsa, OK; and two great-grandsons, Nathan and Mark Verret, both of Matthews, NC.
A service celebrating the life of Mrs. Depew will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 8, 2012 at Covenant Presbyterian Church, 1000 E. Morehead St., Charlotte, NC. The family will receive friends in the narthex following the service.
