She was born December 24, 1943, the daughter of Lt. Col. Wallis Seymour and Edwini Perry Seymour. Jane Seymour was born in Albany, Georgia; moved to Dayton and then England. She adored England, as well many trips to Europe. She hated leaving England, but loved making new friends in Syracuse. She was an Air Force brat and became a civilian brat when she arrived in Charlotte, after her father retired, and to start her junior year – she made good friends here also. She followed her mother’s footsteps by studying interior design at UNCG (Women’s college). With her BA degree she became involved with commercial companies (textile, banks, and credit unions). She became certified with ASID and IBD and later taught design at a private school in order to have the same schedule as her son. She also got involved with several Charlotte Symphony Designer Houses. She loved taking her students to New York City to see true art up close. She even found time to be PTA President at her son’s school. She and her close friend, Peggy Adams, started BEHIND THE SCENES. This company flourished for many years by updating resources for architectural firms, as well as banks and Duke Energy. She became very involved with her son’s illnesses. She retired too soon and became a victim of Alzheimer – she dealt gracefully with her dementia. The staff at Brookdale, South Park was kind and wonderful with Jane.
Let’s celebrate Jane’s departure. She left us all with her big smile – she is welcomed in Heaven with hugs and tears of joy. We will miss her, but we remain here with envy – all we can say is: see you later.
She is survived by her husband, Larry Hill Helms; son, Jeffrey Lawrence Helms of Charlotte; sister, Nancy Sprowl of Atlanta; nephew, Dr. Gregory Sprowl of Alaska; and niece, Edwina Kucharz of Atlanta and is preceded by her parents, Lt. Colonel (USAF ret.) Wallis A. Seymour and Edwina Seymour of Palm Beach, Florida. Jane will love her new home with Jesus more than her previous homes here and abroad – WELCOME HOME LADY JANE.
A service to celebrate Jane's life will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, November 29th in Harry & Bryant’s Chapel in the Oaks, 500 Providence Road. The family will receive friends following the service.
Memorials may be made to The Alzheimer’s Association or charity of choice.
