Jane F. McGann, born Jacquelyn Jane Ferguson, passed peacefully on August 5, 2026, in Fort Mill, South Carolina. Hers was a life defined by love, creativity, and a fortitude that carried her through many chapters in a rich and fulfilling life.
Born in Washington, Pennsylvania to Howard and Eleanor Ferguson. Jane and her three siblings: Jim, Jerry, and her sister, Jill, grew up on the small family farm in Connellsville, Pennsylvania. She enjoyed riding, barrel racing and showing horses, and was an active student
at Dunbar Area High School. Early in her high school years, she met Richard McGann, son of predeceased Arthur and Dorothy McGann. Their young friendship blossomed into a lifelong partnership and they exchanged vows in 1966, after which both continued their education, and Jane graduated from Robert Morris College.
In 1969, Jane moved to Royal Oak, Michigan with Richard, where they started their family, welcoming two wonderful children, Douglas and Shannon, who now reside in Connecticut and Los Angles respectively. Throughout her life, Jane embraced many new beginnings taking up housekeeping for her family in WV, NY, TN, OH, CT, PA, AL, and eventually SC. A wonderful cook with a flair for interior design and gardening, Jane transformed every house into a warm and inviting home.
With kids off to college she used her experience at Connecticut General Insurance Company to launch a new career as Vice President of a private commercial real estate development firm in Avon, CT. She served on the executive board at her church in Simsbury, CT, and was an active volunteer to numerous charitable organizations across the country.
Those aware of Jane’s struggle with health issues over the past decade, along with her family, find comfort in knowing that she is now at peace. She is remembered as a caring mother, who was strong-willed, intelligent, creative, lover of animals, world traveler, and who displayed elegance in the face of personal challenges.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the caregivers of Agape Care Group, SC and Encompass Rehabilitation Center, SC, whose compassion, dedication and gentle care delivered comfort and dignity in Jane’s final years.
Interment and funeral services will be held at a later date.
