Janet (Beidler) Anderson, formerly of Stow, OH, died Sunday, February 2, 2014 after a brief illness. She had been visiting family in Charlotte, NC. She was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, James Russell Anderson, also of Stow, who died in 2011. Janet was born in Akron in 1919, grew up in Cuyahoga Falls, and moved to Stow at the end of the Second World War, where she lived until recently. A long-time member of the First Christian Church in Stow, she was a mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, loved by all for her clear-headed kindness, quirky wit, and unerring sense of style. In her long and charmed life, Janet was an avid tennis player, golfer, hunter, fisherwoman, and sunbather. Many of her younger family and friends sought out her plainspoken advice; her kindness made her a remarkably keen listener, able to engage even total strangers in their life stories. She will be missed by many.
She is survived by her daughters, Joyce Becker of Charlotte, NC, and Joan Anderson of Boulder, CO; two granddaughters, Katie Becker of Gaithersburg, MD, and Maggie Macomber of Charlotte, NC; two great-grandchildren, Zoë Macomber and James Macomber of Charlotte; two sons-in-law, Larry Becker of Derwood, MD; Robert Spellman of Boulder, CO; a grandson-in-law, Steve Macomber of Charlotte; a devoted niece, Kristine Fischer of Stow; and nieces, nephews, extended family and dear friends in Ohio, North and South Carolina, Pennsylvania, Texas, Maryland, Montana, Colorado, Arizona, Massachusetts, Florida, and Brazil.
Daughters Joyce and Joan are planning a memorial service in Stow, Ohio later this year, for both Janet and Jim, Memorial Day weekend, Sunday, May 25th.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to a local food bank; local Hospice; or local Veteran's assistance organization.
