She was the daughter of the late Charles Byron Hawkins and the late Joann Johnson Hawkins. She graduated from Olympic High School in Charlotte, NC. She was a long time member of Trinity Baptist Church in Charlotte.
Most of Janet's adult life was dedicated to caring for children and most recently, elderly patients in nursing homes.
Janet helped care for her father when he became ill, and likewise, for her mother, without complaining. She truly had a servant's heart, putting others ahead of herself.
Janet's interests include growing and tending to plants, both indoors and outdoors. She loved animals of all sorts, including fish, a rabbit, a guinea pig, cats, kittens, and dogs.
Janet enjoyed spending time in the NC mountains and St. Augustine, Florida with her family.
She is survived by her loving sisters, Lisa Farrar of Charlotte, Gaye Taylor of Gastonia, and Dawn Collis (Rob) of Gastonia, nieces, Lori Farrar, Allison Taylor Leary, Emily Collis Nobles, Hailey Collis Weeks, and nephew, Travis Taylor. She was especially close to her aunt and uncle - Ken and Brenda Scarboro, and cousins, Sherry Caskey, Jan Montgomery and Melanie Fitzgerald.
A graveside service for Janet will be held Saturday, January 29, 2022 at1:00 PM at Pineville City Cemetery, 211 Lowry St., Pineville, NC 28134.
