Janice Elizabeth Ison

Janice "Jan" Ison, 76, of Fort Mill, SC, passed away on December 10, 2013 at her residence at Sun City Carolina Lakes. Jan was born May 17, 1937 in Coloma, Michigan to the late Leonard and Louise Frantz. Jan grew up in Coloma, Michigan and received her R.N. in nursing. Jan married Frank in 1961 and they moved to Anderson, Indiana where Frank worked for General Motors. They lived happily for over 20 years in Indiana where they raised a family of three children, Joy, Cory, and Curt. Jan really enjoyed her time as a homemaker raising her children. They moved to Charlotte in 1985 when Frank began working for EDS. Jan resumed her nursing career in Charlotte and worked for various local doctors.

Jan volunteered throughout her lifetime. She served in various roles on the board of local Little Leagues while Frank coached Cory and Curt’s baseball teams. She served as Brownie and Girl Scout leaders for Joy, along with coordinating Girl Scout cookie sales for the city of Anderson. She was a March of Dimes volunteer for many years, and served on the Anderson city Advisory Board. Jan was very active in her sorority Beta Sigma Phi, holding various offices in both Michigan and Indiana. Once in Charlotte, Jan served as a leader for Charlotte Newcomers Club and met many life-long friends. She also volunteered for Food Pantry Loaves and Fishes in Charlotte for a number of years. Jan was a very active member of St. Matthew Catholic Church.

Jan’s hobbies and interests included playing mahjong, playing euchre, attending water exercise classes, eating lunch and dinner with her many good friends, spending time with her grandchildren, playing and attending sports games. Jan played basketball and tennis in high school, and loved watching basketball games. She and Frank held Charlotte Hornets and Carolina Panthers season tickets and loved rooting on Charlotte teams. She enjoyed listening to music daily, as well as attending her friend’s band concerts.

Jan was preceded in death by her husband Frank in 2005.

She is survived by her daughter Joy Ison Wolaver and husband Tony and their children Luke and Lacey; her son Cory Ison and his children Cameron, Kevin, and Kristin; her son Curt Ison and his wife Jenn and their children Kate, Alex, and Lily; and her brother, Rod Frantz.

A private family prayer service was held at St. Matthew Catholic Church.
