February 29, 1984 – September 26, 2026
Jason “Jay” Troy Coleman, 42, passed away peacefully on September 26, 2026. Born on February 29, 1984.
Jay spent his healthy years working as an automotive mechanic and trailer mechanic. He had a natural talent for working with his hands and a genuine love for anything with an engine. He especially enjoyed drifting, Nissans, Mustangs, cooking, and fishing. Whether he was under the hood of a vehicle, working with his hands, or out fishing, Jay was happiest doing the things he loved.
More than anything, Jay loved his family, his dogs, and the people who meant the most to him. His dogs, Zeus and Luna, were a special part of his life. He was also reunited in Heaven with his beloved baby, Carman, who was surely waiting for him with a wagging tail.
Jay was preceded in death by his beloved Maw Maw, Esther Mae Coleman; Paw, James Troy Coleman; Granny, Frances Mccaskill Elmore; and his nephew, Cole Allen Varner.
Of all the people Jay loved, his Maw Maw Esther held a particularly special place in his heart. She was his favorite person, and there is something comforting in knowing that when Jay arrived at Heaven’s gates, the person he loved so dearly was there to welcome him home with open arms. We can imagine her telling him she had been waiting for him—and probably reminding him that he was still her favorite.
Jay leaves behind his loving wife, Elizabeth Nikole Coleman; his parents, Billy Ray Varner Jr. and Esther “Marie” Coleman Varner; his grandparents, Billy Ray Varner and Sharon Johnson Varner; his brother, Billy “Bubba” Ray Varner III, and his wife, Danielle, and their sons, Hunter and Carter; his brother, Travis Scott Varner, and his wife, Amy, and their son, Gabe; his father and mother-in-law, Joseph Michael James and Samantha Dawn James, as well as numerous extended family members and dear friends. All who knew and loved Jay will carry his memory in their hearts and remember him for his humor, his mechanical talents, drifting, fishing, his unwavering love for his dogs, and the one-of-a-kind personality that made him truly unforgettable.
Although his time with us was not nearly long enough, Jay left behind memories that will remain for a lifetime. His birthday may have only appeared on the calendar every four years, but the mark he made on the hearts of those who loved him will be remembered every single day.
Rest easy, Jay. Give Maw Maw a hug for us, give Carman some love, and save us a fishing spot. You’ll be missed more than words can say.
A Memorial Service to celebrate his life will be held 6:00 PM Thursday, the 1st of October, 2026 in the Chapel of McEwen Funeral & Cremation Services at Forest Lawn West. The family will greet friends following the service until 8:00 PM.
