Jay Carter Shinn

Jay Clark Carter Shinn died peacefully on July 21, 2016 at the Hospice of Union County after many years of suffering Alzheimer’s Disease. He was 72 years old. Born in San Diego, CA, he graduated with a radio and television broadcasting degree from San Diego State University, before starting his career with Colgate/Palmolive which took him to New York, Johannesburg, and Chicago. From 1980 he lived in Charlotte, NC as co-owner of Boggs &Co. and was a financial advisor at Prudential.

Jay was a long term active member of the Dilworth Rotary Club and a multi-year long board member of the Myositis Association. He loved to travel, spend time with his children and grandchildren, and kept himself physically fit – all preferably in very hot places with an overabundance of sun.

Jay is survived by his wife Evelyn Zielinski Shinn, daughters Cammie Shinn Tufts, Dahri Shinn Beckowitz, and Amanda Shinn Van Assen, and son David Carter Shinn along with nine grandchildren and his beloved dog, Macy.

A visitation will be held on Tuesday, July 26, from 6-8pm at McEwen Funeral Home, located at 10500 Park Road, Charlotte, NC 28210. A service celebrating Jay’s life will held on Wednesday, July 27, at 2:00pm in the Chapel at Christ Lutheran Church located at 4519 Providence Road, Charlotte, NC 28226. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Association (www.alz.org)
