During the war she met Capt., later Major, Edgar W. Dunham Jr. of Durham, N.C., serving in the U.S. Army Air Corps in England. They were married on Dec. 9, 1944, at Enfield Chase, Middlesex, England, where her family lived.
In 1946 Jean voyaged to America, joining her husband and his family in Durham. Later the couple and their three children lived in Port Washington, NY, and Barrington, Ill., before moving to Charlotte in 1967. Jean and Eddie divorced several years later and he passed away in 2007.
Jean earned her real estate broker’s license in Charlotte and worked for many years as a broker at Wyman Realty and Bissell - Hayes. In 1970 she became a U.S. citizen.

She was an avid fan of professional golf and tennis and a serious and often intimidating bridge player, according to her bridge-partner friends at Carmel and Quail Meadow Estates. Jean volunteered for many years at Loaves and Fishes, Charlotte, and supported the Charlotte Rescue Mission.
