
Jean graduated from Hunter College in New York City before moving to Charlotte 61 years ago. She was a member of Temple Beth El since her arrival in Charlotte and volunteered for Jewish Family Services and the Mecklenburg County court system as a Guardian ad Litem. She taught kindergarten at Christ Episcopal Church in Charlotte for 27 years; was an avid reader, enjoyed needlepointing, crocheting, collecting pottery and especially luncheons with friends.
Mrs. Finkelstein is survived by her husband of 66 years, Walter I. Finkelstein, whom she met in New York at age 18. She is also survived by daughters, Robin D. Finkelstein of Charlotte and Susan F. Koman and husband Steven of Harrisburg, NC; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Ronald and Ina Finkelstein of Boca Raton, FL; nephews, Andrew Finkelstein and wife Leora of Great Neck, NY, David Finkelstein of Great Neck, NY, and Andrew Schorr and wife Esther of Carlsbad, CA.
In addition to her parents, Jean was preceded in death by her sister-in-law, Gilda Finkelstein.
The family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to Boffa, Kim and Nesha for their loving and compassionate care of the entire family during this most difficult time.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm on Sunday, September 4, 2016 in the Mindy Levine Chapel at the Hebrew Cemetery, 1801 Statesville Ave., Charlotte.
