Jean Rorie Hargett

Jean, age 97, of Mint Hill, NC was blessed on June 4, 2019 to be reunited with the love of her life, Herbert Lee Hargett. He preceded her in death in 2008. They were married for 66 years. She was the daughter of Raymond and Leona Smith Rorie of Marshville, NC. Her parents and her five siblings also preceded her in death. She leaves to cherish her memory three daughters and their spouses, Nancy Lakeman of Mt. Juliet, TN, Pris Weston and Stan Covington of Salt Lake City, UT, and Linda Willis and husband Mike of Boone, NC; three grandchildren, Deron Weston (Tricia) of Raleigh, NC, Jeremy Lakeman (Jessica) of Mt. Juliet, TN, and Maria Willis Norris (Ryan) of Boone, NC, and eight great grandchil-dren who loved and cherished the time they were blessed to have with their granny. Jean graduated from Union High School in 1939. Her first job followed that same year at Merita Bakery on West Trade Street in Charlotte, NC where she iced cakes. She met her future hus-band at the bakery. She also worked for Hudson Hosiery and Belk Department Store Services. Her most successful career was as a mother and homemaker for her family. Jean and Herb were members of Steele Creek Presbyterian Church and later of Philadelphia Presbyterian Church where they were active members and generously volunteered their time. In 1991 Jean was honored with a life membership award by the Philadelphia Presbyterian Women of the Church. A memorial service to celebrate the life of Jean Rorie Hargett will be held on Saturday, June 8 at 11:00 in the chapel of Sharon Memorial Cemetery Park, 5716 Monroe Road, Charlotte, NC. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association- Western Carolina Chapter, 4600 Park Road, #250, Charlotte, NC 28209 or to a special cause of your choosing.

Dearest Nancy and Family
Your Mother was such a wonderful blessing to everyone that had the privilege of knowing her.
You were so good to care for her and to share her with your classmates and friends. She was a very special and endearing lady.

My deepest sympathies to you and your family. I always enjoyed your mother when she visited our luncheons. She was a lovely lady. Oh, how I loved Mrs. Hargett! She had the most beautiful smile and always had a twinkle in her eyes. She made people feel loved & appreciated, and she loved to be with people. She had a sweet demeanor and a kind heart. My life has been better by just knowing her!
