Jean Surber

Mrs. Surber was born in Rock Hill and was the daughter of the late James. G and Lillian Hellams Moses. She was a graduate of Rock Hill High School, Class of 1957, Presbyterian School of Nursing, Class of 1960, and Charlotte Memorial Hospital School of Anesthesia. Jean was known by her coworkers as “Mama Jean”. She was a happy, fun-loving person and everyone would smile when they saw her. She was always willing and ready to help others.

Jean was a member of Carmel Baptist Church and the Elizabeth Sunday School Class. She was active in the women’s ministries. She loved her church and her Lord.

Jean was preceded in death by her husband, Clifford Larry Surber and her brother, James Thomas Moses. She is survived by two sisters, Joyce M. McGarity (Donald) and Judy M. Rains (Ike) of Rock Hill, SC, her sister-in-law, Janice S. Moses of Rapid City, SD, step-daughter, Deanna Phifer of Charlotte, NC, and several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 20, 2013, at McEwen Funeral Service, Pineville Chapel, 10500 Park Road, Pineville, NC. Visitation will be held following the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Carmel Baptist Church, 1145 Pineville-Matthews Road, Matthews, NC 28105.
